Telehealth ABA Across Maryland and Virginia
Telehealth is the one Able Minds service that does not depend on where you live. If you are in Western Maryland, on the Eastern Shore, or in a part of Virginia where the nearest technician is an hour away, telehealth is usually how we start.
Two things run well over video. The first is parent and caregiver coaching, where your BCBA works directly with you on the strategies you will use between sessions. The second is direct instruction for children who already tolerate a screen, which suits verbal behaviour targets, academic readiness work and some social skills goals.
Telehealth also pairs with the other settings rather than replacing them. Many families run in-home ABA therapy as the main service and use telehealth for the parent-training hours, or add school-based ABA once the classroom becomes the priority.
Coverage differs by plan. Our intake team checks your telehealth benefit specifically, because it is not always the same as your in-person benefit. See insurance we accept.

Telehealth ABA FAQs
How does Telehealth ABA Therapy work for children?
Telehealth ABA therapy delivers structured, evidence-based therapy directly to your home via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. During sessions, your Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or therapist connects through live video to guide structured activities, model interventions, and provide real-time coaching for parents while your child participates in play-based learning and everyday routines in a comfortable, familiar environment.
What skills can be targeted during virtual ABA therapy sessions?
Telehealth ABA therapy focuses on practical skills that support daily life, including:
Communication: Using words, gestures, or AAC devices to express needs and follow directions.
Daily Routines: Improving mealtime, tooth brushing, cleanup, and bedtime routines.
Behavior & Emotional Regulation: Learning calming strategies and managing big emotions.
Social & Play Skills: Developing focus, attention, and joint play interactions.
What role do parents play during Telehealth ABA sessions?
Parents play an active, essential role in telehealth sessions. Your BCBA provides step-by-step demonstrations, modeling, and real-time guidance so you can facilitate activities and practice behavior management strategies directly with your child. This hands-on involvement helps you build long-term confidence and ensures progress continues outside of scheduled session times.
Why choose Telehealth ABA over in-person sessions?
Telehealth ABA offers key advantages for busy families across Maryland and Virginia, such as:
Flexibility & Convenience: Flexible scheduling without travel, traffic, or commute stress.
Consistent Care: Therapy continues without interruptions caused by bad weather, transportation challenges, or mild illnesses.
Low-Stress Environment: Children often feel more comfortable and engaged participating from home.
Is Telehealth ABA Therapy covered by insurance in Maryland and Virginia?
Yes. Most insurance plans cover telehealth ABA therapy for children with an autism diagnosis. Able Minds ABA accepts Maryland Medicaid, major commercial insurance providers, and private pay. Our team handles all insurance verification, prior authorizations, claims, and paperwork so your family can focus on therapy without administrative stress.
Is telehealth ABA covered the same way as in-person ABA?
Not always. Some plans authorize telehealth hours separately from in-person hours, and a few limit which service codes can be delivered remotely. We verify your telehealth benefit specifically during intake so there are no surprises.
Will telehealth work if my child will not sit at a screen?
For direct instruction, probably not at first. In that case telehealth is still useful for parent coaching, where you are the one on the call and your child is simply living their normal day while you learn the strategies.
Can we use telehealth in Virginia?
Yes. Telehealth ABA runs in both Maryland and Virginia, and it is often the quickest route to starting for Virginia families who are outside the areas we currently staff for in-home sessions.
